Editorial Policy

Last Updated: January 2026

Since 2002, RetailWire has been the retail industry's independent voice, bringing you objective news coverage, expert analysis, and meaningful discussion.

Our Mission

RetailWire exists to serve retail professionals — the executives, practitioners, and industry experts who need reliable information and a trusted community to think through the issues shaping their industry. Everything we publish is evaluated first by whether it serves that audience.

Editorial Independence

Our editorial content is never for sale. Companies cannot pay for coverage, buy favorable mentions, or influence our news selection. Our editorial team picks stories based solely on what's relevant and important to retail professionals.

Specifically:

  • Advertisers and sponsors have no influence over which topics we cover, how we frame editorial questions, or which discussions we run
  • We may write about, link to, or cite sponsor companies in editorial contexts — that does not constitute an endorsement
  • We may also write critically about sponsors where the news warrants it
  • No advertiser or sponsor receives preferential treatment in our moderation or editorial process

How We Make Money

RetailWire generates revenue through three clearly disclosed channels:

  • Sponsored content. We partner with retail technology companies to create educational content for our audience. All sponsored content is clearly labeled as "Sponsored" or "Presented by [Company Name]."
  • Brand awareness and promotion. Sponsors can promote their solutions through our newsletters, website, and social channels. These placements are clearly marked as sponsored or advertising.
  • Lead and professional introductions. We facilitate connections between technology providers and retail professionals where we see a professional fit and mutual benefit.

All retail professionals can access RetailWire's core content for free. Our commercial relationships do not gate editorial content.

Our Standards

  • All sponsored content is clearly labeled
  • We maintain standards for relevance and quality in the content we publish and promote
  • Companies cannot pay for editorial coverage or influence our news selection
  • We vet sponsors for relevance to our audience and do not knowingly accept advertising from companies engaged in deceptive practices

Source Standards

RetailWire covers news and analysis relevant to the retail industry. Our editorial standards include:

  • We attribute claims to sources and link to primary documents where available
  • We correct errors promptly — factual corrections are noted at the top of the relevant article
  • We distinguish clearly between news reporting, analysis, and opinion
  • BrainTrust commentary represents the views of the individual expert, not RetailWire

Corrections

If you believe an article contains a factual error, please contact us with the URL and the specific correction you are requesting. We review all correction requests and publish corrections at the top of the original article when warranted.
