Discount Grocers Seeing Loss of Customers To Specialty Competitors

Discount grocers such as Aldi, Food 4 Less, Grocery Outlet, and Lidl are losing market share to specialty grocers like Natural Grocers, Sprouts, Trader Joe's, Wegmans, and Whole Foods, according to new data from Consumer Edge. “The trade-down is over as a share story, not as a consumer condition, because the reversal in discount grocer share describes where dollars moved rather than household budgets easing,” Consumer Edge stated.
