Walmart’s posts same-store sales and earnings gains

Walmart posted earnings per share of $1.13 in the first quarter, above the estimated $1.02 consensus among Wall Street analysts. The retailer posted a same-store sales increase of 3.4 percent, its best showing for the first quarter in nine years. E-commerce sales were up 37 percent in the period, with online grocery and fashion showing strength.
