Walgreens cuts HQ positions as ground shifts under Rx business

Although Walgreens’ management has not gone into specifics, the retail chain laid off about 100 workers at its Deefield, IL headquarters last week, according to a Chicago Tribune source. The company is also reportedly eliminating its bonuses this year as it ratchets up its cost-cutting objective to $1.8 billion annually. In a conference call yesterday, the company alluded to “additional restructuring” in its retail pharmacy international and pharmaceutical wholesale divisions, as well.
