J.Crew considers IPO for Madewell

Privately-held J.Crew is considering a spin-off and initial public offering of its Madewell brand. An IPO would help Madewell operate without potentially being weighed down by J.Crew, which has struggled in recent years. The funds raised could also offer J.Crew a chance to pay down some of the crushing debt it has operated under for years.
