Woolworths’ HBC Gets Ugly

According to a report on the British newspaper site, telegraph.co.uk, the Woolworths chain’s struggles continue as it revealed disappointing sales and admitted its HBC-focused general stores had been a failure.

Comparable store sales were flat for the first 15 weeks of the year. Analysts had expected growth between one to two percent, according to the report.

Woolworths has halted its general stores roll-out because of performance concerns. It has invested about 20 million pounds in launching the 20 stores it operates under the format.
