Who Wants To Be a Billionaire?

By George Anderson

Pepsi is joining the reality television craze with its “Play for a Billion” summer promotion that will culminate in a two-hour WB network special in September, says CNN/Money.

The promotion launching May 1 will see one lucky individual win $1 million and, although highly unlikely, perhaps even walk away with $1 billion.

To win the billion, the winner must hold a multi-digit number that matches a number to be drawn at random on live TV by what the program’s executive producer Matti Leshem calls “an unusually dexterous monkey. It’s the ultimate slap in the face to evolution: the fate of a billion dollars will be in the hands of a monkey.”

Moderator’s Comment: What are your thoughts on Pepsi’s
“Play for a Billion” promotion?

The CNN/Money report says the chances of winning the $1
billion top prize “are infinitesimally low”.

If, by some miracle, someone wins a billion, then Pepsi
will have as much good publicity as it can handle.

Should the monkey’s and human’s numbers not match up,
most will see this (assuming they already do not) as hype on the level of Geraldo’s
Rivera’s crime against broadcasting with his Al Capone’s vault special.
