Wal-Mart is renowned for its customer focus and willingness to test new concepts
its shoppers will appreciate, according to Reuters.
Among Wal-Mart’s recent tests are its Kids Candy Connection store-within-a-store,
used car sales, George fashion stores, gas stations and drive-thru pharmacies.
Moderator’s Comment: Is Wal-Mart more adventuresome
than its competitors when it comes to testing new ideas? Is it more successful
in choosing the right concepts to test?
Wal-Mart is probably less risk-adverse than most of its
competition. It also has a greater cushion for absorbing tests that do not succeed.
