Tropicana Rolls Out Light ‘n Healthy OJ

By George Anderson

Tropicana has rolled out a new low-calorie orange juice that it hopes will help it recapture weight and carb watchers.

The new juice, Light ‘n Healthy, has about a third of the sugar content and calories of its regular orange juice.

“Light ‘n Healthy,” reports the Associated Press, “has fewer solids, where much of the sugar resides in regular juice. Two patents are pending on the process which removes
solids from the juice, adds water and a no-calorie artificial sweetener.”

Moderator’s Comment: Will Light ‘n Healthy be a winner for Tropicana and its retail partners?

As the AP piece pointed out, Tropicana has done well with its value-added juices, such as those with calcium added. Adding an artificial sweetener may be
a turn-off to some, but it will also help attract others who never or infrequently drink OJ.
