Treasury Seeks to Reclassify Malternatives

By George Anderson

Advertising Age reports that the Treasury Department’s Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau has developed new rules that would reclassify malternatives as distilled spirits.

The proposed reclassification would limit manufacturers’ advertising (network television does not air commercials for distilled spirits) and result in higher taxes on the products.

No date for implementation of the new rules has been set.

Moderator’s Comment: Should malternatives be reclassified?

This is where our tax dollars are going. Sheesh.
