Target Looks To Be Number One Spot For Deals

By George Anderson

Target’s 125-unit test of its dollar store-within-a-store concept called “1 Spot” has been deemed a success and will now be rolled out to all of the chain’s stores by September.

“We just got such a favorable response from our (customers),” spokesperson Cathy Wright told Reuters. “They like the treasure hunt kind of experience.”

The section sell items ranging from food stuff to toys and are positioned near the store entrance where guests, Target’s term for customers, pick up shopping carts.

Moderator’s Comment: What are your thoughts on Target adding dollar sections to every one of its stores? How will
this affect the retailer’s image in the minds of the consumer? Do you think this will lead to the retailer developing a stand-alone dollar store concept?

We have to admit having some reservations when we first ran a story about Target’s test of its “1 Spot” sections, Target
