Safeway Delivers Good News

By George Anderson

Bad news about the contentious labor situation in Southern California may be what first comes to mind for many when thinking about Safeway, but as an East Bay Business Times
article points out, the company has some good news to share, as well.

Safeway has the largest online grocer business of any brick and mortar store operator and it promises to capture its fair share of the $8.8 billion in sales International Data
Corp says will be done in online grocery this year.

The company currently runs online grocery services in West Coast markets from San Diego up to Seattle. Safeway has plans to improve its performance in fresh foods as well as
enhancing its order customization features to improve the shopping experience for its customers.

California having an impact on Safeway’s consumer direct initiatives?

Are Safeway.com’s order processors and drivers not represented by UFCW, the Teamsters or other union? George
