Bob Mariano, chief executive of Roundy’s, says reports about a loss of market share by the company’s Rainbow Foods division are off base.

He told the Pioneer Press, “Since last Thanksgiving, our market share has been consistently around 20 percent.’

The division’s performance “continues to our satisfaction and our sales are positive,’ he added.

Speculation about Rainbow’s performance increased recently with the resignation of the company’s general manager, Dale Riley. Mr. Riley was only with the chain for about a year.

In an interview with Supermarket News, Mr. Riley said he resigned over differences about the company’s centralized approach to decision-making.

Moderator’s Comment: What is really going on at Rainbow Foods? Does Roundy’s centralized approach to management negatively
impact Rainbow Food’s ability to compete?
