By George Anderson

Looking for something to do tonight?

Why not catch Avril Lavigne in concert. She’ll be playing at your local Wal-Mart.

Beginning tonight and continuing on select Friday nights throughout the year, customers in more than 2,600 stores will be able to see and hear artists such as Ms. Lavigne on
the Wal-Mart Television Network.

The concerts are part of America Online’s (AOL) Broadband Rocks Live series.

“We are excited to give our customers front row seats to experience some of today’s hottest music stars,” said Troy Steiner, marketing director for Wal-Mart Stores. “This is
one of many ways we utilize the Wal-Mart Television Network to deliver nonstop entertainment to our customers during their shopping trip.”

While Wal-Mart gets its shoppers dancing in the aisles, AOL gets to connect with consumers on the advantages of broadband Internet access.

“Our weekly concert series, Broadband Rocks, has experienced explosive growth online reaching millions of AOL(R) for Broadband members every week,” said Evan Harrison, vice president
and general manager, AOL Music. “Partnering with Wal-Mart will turn the concerts into true local events for music fans in more than 2,600 retail stores across the country.”

Other performers who have appeared on AOL’s Broadband Rocks Live series including Hilary Duff, Alicia Keys and Usher.

Moderator’s Comment: What are your thoughts on Wal-Mart’s use of in-store media to engage shoppers? Where do you see
the biggest opportunities for retailers to use in-store media/communications to drive sales?

For those about to rock their customers to shop, we salute you. Let’s hope Wal-Mart’s got sufficient stock and special displays of Avril Lavigne’s CDs ready
to go tonight.
