Poll: Opinions Vary on Doing Business on September 11th

Sep 10, 2002

Retailers should conduct business as usual tomorrow on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, according to the majority of respondents to a chainstoreage.com poll. Fifty-one percent said that retailers should conduct business as usual. Twenty-two percent said retailers should refrain from sales or advertising, 17% believe stores should cut back hours and 10% believe that stores should close for the day.

Moderator’s Comment: How should retailers (and others)
conduct business (or not) tomorrow and on future September 11s?

Last week, we would have said business as usual. One day
before September 11 and we’re not so sure anymore. We’re happy to not have to
make that decision. [George
