Pathmark Faces Strike

The New York Times reports that associates at 55 metro New York Pathmark supermarkets voted Monday night to strike if a new contract deal is not by the end of next week. The associates are members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1500 which represents 7,500 Pathmark cashiers and clerks. Frank Meehan, the UFCW local’s president, said the strike vote was unanimous. The union claims that the primary issues of concern are health care, pensions, wages and overtime pay for Sunday.
