Microsoft Gives Developers Peak Into Windows Code

Microsoft has announced that it will begin to comply with an antitrust settlement it signed with the U.S. Justice Department last year by making public what was, up till now, proprietary computer code for its Windows operating system.

Reports from various sources say that Microsoft plans to disclose approximately 400 pieces of code and operating rules, previously kept secret, which outside software developers can use to write programs to run on Windows.

Moderator’s Comment: How significant is this latest
move by Microsoft?

Bill Gates, Steve Ballmer and company would have you think
that it is making a huge move to open up its code to developers. It’s not. This
action is merely ‘Windows’ dressing. [George
