McLane to Supply 7-Eleven

Reuters reports that 7-Eleven Inc. has signed a 40-month supply agreement with McLane Co. The deal could be worth some two billion dollars per year.

McLane will supply substantially all grocery, frozen food, cigarettes, health and beauty products, general merchandise, and other products to 7-Eleven’s network of 5,300 stores. The contract becomes effective September 21 and will run until January, 2006, according to 7-Eleven.

Moderator Comment: Two Questions:

  1. What will the 7-Eleven deal mean for McLane?

  2. Does McLane being a unit of Wal-Mart help or hurt it with retailers evaluating wholesale suppliers?
