McDonald’s Makes Newman’s Its Own

By George Anderson

In another move to recast its image, McDonald’s is rolling out a premium line of salads served with Newman’s Own dressings.

Newman’s Own is actor Paul Newman’s line of healthy dressings and other food items. The company gives 100% of after tax profits to charities.

McDonald’s move has some believing the company may be recapturing its marketing genius.

Bob Sandelman, a fast-food industry consultant, told USA Today, “This is the kind of image McDonald’s needs right now. It shows they’re not just about selling fat, fried foods and obesity.”

McDonald’s new premium line of salads will retail for $3.99. Seven types of lettuce are being used along with grilled or fried chicken.

Moderator’s Comment: What do you think about McDonald’s
linking with Newman’s Own to promote its new line of salads?

Our position is McDonald’s should concentrate on junk
food. That said, this move is nothing short of brilliant. If nothing else, it
could help overturn nutrition conscious parents’ “veto votes” as described by
USA Today. [George
