Steve Howard, the general manager of a Kmart store in Waveland, Miss. would be the first to tell you the idea to have a farmers market in the store’s parking lot was not his. It was his customers.

The store did a survey of shoppers and found, according to a Sun Herald report, “many liked the idea of having an open-air farmers market.”

The market will run every Sunday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the store’s lot and local produce vendors will be allowed to set up stalls free of charge.

This week’s RetailWire “They Get It” award goes to Steve Howard and the employees of Kmart in Waveland, Miss. It’s stories such as this that give us hope
