By George Anderson
Hy-Vee has opened its newest store in St. Joseph, MO yesterday and the company’s
chairman and chief executive officer, Ron Pearson said, “This is a store of
the 21st century. It’s designed with amenities customized to customers’ lifestyle.”
The store which cost $14 million to build is approximately 74,000 square feet
and includes a pharmacy, bakery, florist, video/DVD rental, one-hour photo processing,
dry-cleaning services, six restaurants and a 4,000 square foot wine and spirit
shop.
Hy-Vee plans to add online shopping services and gasoline pumps in the next
three to six months at the St. Joseph location.
Moderator’s Comment: What is it about the corporate
culture, operations, etc. that makes Hy-Vee successful?
The most helpful amenity offered by Hy-Vee is its people.
The employee-owned chain continues to demonstrate a personal attention to shoppers
that most others only talk about. [George
