Home Shopping Network Upgrades Site

By George Anderson

The Home Shopping Network (HSN) has revamped its Web site (www.hsn.com) to bring in new shoppers and to increase its functionality
with the retailer’s televised shopping programs.

Paul Guyardo, executive vice president of TV and Marketing said in a released statement, “Hsn.com is extremely effective at attracting new customers who will watch our network,
but prefer to shop online. By combining the TV and online experience, we can ultimately drive multi-channel shopping behavior which translates into higher satisfaction, lower
churn and greater spend.”

Part of the new HSN Web site’s increased functionality will included allowing online consumers to watch a live broadcast of the retailer’s televised program.

Moderator’s Comment: Will greater synergy between the televised and online portions of HSN attract new shoppers and increase sales to existing shoppers
as the retailer is counting on?

Four minutes in we were still waiting for the streaming video to load and this was on the high bandwidth option. Needless to say we never got a chance to
abandon a cart. We just left the site.
