Home Depot Makes Room for More Appliances

Home Depot Inc. plans to roll out a larger appliance showroom in as many as 350 stores this year. This initiative is part of a new store design concept for the chain and a bid to capture greater share of the appliance business, reports The Wall Street Journal.

Home Depot is also testing a new 24-hour in-stock distribution system in the Atlanta market to compete with competitors’ such as Lowe’s that offer guaranteed next-day delivery. Home Depot currently relies on manufacturers to make many of its customer deliveries within 48 hours.

Moderator Comment: Will Home Depot be a major presence
in the appliance retailing market?

Sears can not be happy about this. Best Buy can not be
too thrilled either. [George
