Home Depot for the Holidays

By George Anderson

Home Depot wants in on the gift-giving business this holiday season so the home improvement retailer
is launching its first ever Christmas catalog.

Holiday Inspirations will contain up to 275 products, including items such as National Football League tool sets, NASCAR-themed products, Clifford the Big Red Dog swings
and Princess Disney lamps. Items can be purchased through the catalog or online at www.homedepot.com. Purchases will be
shipped in an orange and white gift box via UPS.

John Costello, Home Depot’s executive vice president of merchandising and marketing said, “We’re going after the gift business in a big way.”

Nathan Lewis, an analyst with Jackson Securities thinks the Holiday Inspirations catalog is the right move for Home Depot. “It will pay off in the long run because it
will increase their market share,” he told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Moderator’s Comment: What are your thoughts on Home Depot launching its first holiday gift catalog?

Many of the items, as we understand it, sold in the catalog cannot be found in Home Depot stores. If consumers buy enough Green Bay Packer toolsets (in
spite of the team breaking our hearts on Monday Night and in the terrible loss to Kansas City earlier in the year), then perhaps the catalog will be a success.
