Hitachi has developed a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag small enough to be embedded into the inedible parts of fresh vegetables, reports Just-Food.com.
The tags, measuring 0.4mm x 0.4mm, are expected to sell for as little as five cents a piece beginning in 2005.
