The Hartz Mountain Corporation is issuing a limited edition “HELP A HERO” DOGNY Dog Toy to help raise awareness and money for DOGNY™. For every toy sold, Hartz will donate one dollar to The American Kennel Club Companion Animal Recovery Corporation Canine Support and Relief Fund.

The established 501(c)(3) charity was created to honor the more than 300 expertly
trained dogs and handlers that came from as far as California and Utah to search
Ground Zero. It is sponsored by The American Kennel Club and AKC Companion Animal
Recovery.

The toy comes in the three breeds used most often in search and rescue operations:
German Shepherd, Labrador Retriever, and Bloodhound. Each one comes with a removable
red, white and blue bandanna and an embroidered DOGNY logo. The suggested retail
pricing for the toys are from $4.99 to $6.99.

Moderator Comment: Is it a good business decision for retailers to create special in-store merchandising/display programs around products that support 9/11 and related charities on the anniversary of the terrorist attacks?

Many companies are searching for dignified ways to make
something positive out of the tragedy of September 11, 2001. Here’s hoping that
Hartz Mountain reaches its goal of raising one million dollars for the American Kennel
Club Companion Animal Recovery Corporation Canine Support and Relief Fund. [George
