Fast Food, O’Natural

By George Anderson

A new fast food restaurant concept, O’Naturals, combines organic and healthy menu items delivered at the speed of McDonald’s.

Mac McCabe, president and CEO of O’Naturals, told the Milford Daily News, “We’re about better food. We have food choices for everybody. We’re not preaching low-fat though some of our soups, salads, sandwiches and stir-fries are. Whatever diet you’re on we have something for you.”

The O’Naturals menu includes items such as buffalo meatloaf, organic cheesecake and, for the kids, a natural turkey hotdog wrapped in mozzarella cheese and a warm tortilla. Check out the company’s web site for its complete menu and to download a pdf file of its takeout menu.

Moderator’s Comment: Will a restaurant concept such
as O’Naturals have mass consumer appeal or will it be a niche player?

Mac McCabe and Gary Hirshberg of Stonyfield Yogurt fame
co-founded O’Naturals. McDonald’s isn’t the only one that needs to watch out.
Panera Bread and others would be wise to keep an eye on O’Naturals as it expands
in its New England base. [George
