Cancer Institute Says Eat Your Veggies

By George Anderson

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) says men need to eat nine servings of fruits and vegetables a day; women should consume seven servings and kids five.

NCI is launching its “Eat 5 to 9 a Day” publicity campaign this week, replacing the “5 a Day” promotion that has been in place for years.

According to Tara Parker-Pope’s piece in the Wall Street Journal, “Only 23% of adults eat at least five daily servings of fruit and vegetables. Only 4% of men consume nine. More than one-third of the population eats only one or two servings and 4% eat less than that.”

Moderator’s Comment: Was the “Eat 5 a Day” campaign
successful? What are the chances of the “Eat 5 to 9 a Day” goals being achieved?

Is it possible to have a percentage that’s slimmer than
none? [George
