C&S Makes Foxy Move

By George Anderson

C&S Wholesale Grocers is on the move. The Packer reports, it has signed an exclusive licensing agreement with The Nunes Co. of Salinas, Calif. to distribute vegetables under the Foxy brand name.

Todd Schneider, category manager for C&S, told The Packer, “Currently, we are doing about 8,000 cases per week. We plan on making that 17,000-20,000 by the end of the year.”

Mr. Schneider added, “Our agreement with Foxy is for the East Coast. But there are always opportunities. Now that C&S is in California, we could take it with us. But we don’t want to over grow it.”

Moderator’s Comment: What are your thoughts on C&S’ licensing agreement for the Foxy brand? Do you expect to see other wholesalers and/or large self-distributing
chains follow suit?

C&S gets differentiation. As the sole supplier of these veggies, it gives its retailers something no one else has. Now the question is, “How strong
is the Foxy brand in the mind of consumers?”
