Bombs Planted in Ikea Stores

By George Anderson

Ten Ikea stores in the Netherlands were closed today due to a bomb scare.

Reuters reports that two bombs were found in Ikea stores in Amsterdam and Sliedrecht. Another suspicious package, destroyed in a controlled explosion, was discovered in a third store.

Authorities were quick to downplay a possible link to al-Qaida or other terrorist organization. Marianne Bloos a spokesperson for the Dutch Ministry said, “There are no indications of that. We want to emphatically reject that idea.”

terrorist activity and other forms of armed violence in retail locations require
stores to change their approach to store security?

It may be time to start giving more attention to what
shoppers and associates bring in the store, instead of focusing on what they
are carrying on the way out. [George
