Asda Sells Love Connection

By George Anderson

An Asda store in Huddersfield, England is giving Cupid a little help for Valentine’s Day.

The retailer is holding a singles’ evening to give its shoppers a chance to make a love connection. Store associates will don evening wear and serve champagne to shoppers.

Judith Alderman, events coordinator, Asda told The Huddersfield Daily Examiner, “It’s just a bit of fun really, but if you are looking for love come along.”

Moderator’s Comment: Do social events give stores more
opportunities to build shopper loyalty? Is there any retailer that stands out
in this respect?

We’ve heard that Border Books provides space for local
womens’ groups such as La Leche League to hold monthly meetings in stores. [George
