Ahold Restructures, Bruno’s CEO Resigns

By George Anderson

Ahold announced yesterday that it was restructuring back-operations at its Bruno’s, BI-LO, Giant-Carlisle and Tops operations.

“There will be little or no impact on store operations as all four companies will continue to operate their respective brands,’ said Bill Grize, president & chief executive officer, Ahold USA Retail Operations.

He added, “The competitive benefits will be the efficiencies and economies of scale offered by streamlining activities in ways which don’t affect our customers.”

In related news, Bruno’s chief executive, Jim Demme has decided to leave the company. BI-LO’s chief executive, Dean Cohagan will lead the reorganization between the two chains. The chief executives at Giant-Carlisle and Tops will jointly oversee the changes affecting those chains.

Streamlining is good, IF Bill Grize is correct and the
streamlining activities won’t affect Ahold’s ability to deliver value and service
to its shoppers. [George
