Tort reform to restrict suits by individuals against businesses and doctors has been promoted as a necessity to get healthcare and other costs under control by the current administration. A recent study by the non-partisan consumer advocacy group Private Citizen, however, found “American businesses file four times as many lawsuits as do individuals represented by trial attorneys, and they are penalized by judges much more often for pursuing frivolous litigation.”
