The death spiral of GM, Chrysler, and to a somewhat lesser extent Ford, is certainly sad to watch. All three were losing big dough even in the relatively good times of the past few years. Then came high gas prices, the credit crisis, and the recession. In hindsight, what should have been done to avoid the problems at U.S. automakers?
